10 days Rajasthan Travel Itinerary

Rajasthan Travel

India has been on my travel wish lists and finally made it there a few weeks ago.I hope this 10 days Rajasthan Travel Itinerary guide will be helpful to you if you are planning to go to India for the first time.

Why I choose  to travel to Rajasthan ?

India is such a huge country and  in fact it is the seventh-largest country by area and the second-most populous country in the world , so with the time I could spend I had to choose carefully what I wanted to see. They have beautiful Himalayas mountains ,stunning beaches like Goa , the greenery mountains in Kerala and many more. But for me the answer was simple , India is famous for its many colours and what else is more colourful than Rajasthan state, from fairy-tale palaces and majestic forts to colourful festivals and epic desert.

Where  is Rajasthan  located?

Rajasthan is a northern Indian state bordering Pakistan, do not worry it is absolutely safe. It is easily accessible from the capital city , Delhi by plane, bus and train ( they even have luxury trains , but they are super expensive – more than 600 USD a night per person).

Suggested Route

  •  Delhi
  • Jaisalmer
  • Jodhpur
  • Jaipur
  •  Agra and back to Delhi

Other Places that you can visit in Rajasthan

  • Udiapur
  • Pushkar

Day 1-2: Delhi

Delhi, the capital of India with 18.98 millions people. This place is famous for notorious scams  and crazy traffic.

Unless you don’t mind crowded streets and people. I would suggest to leave as soon as you can. Well rest and get enough sleep to continue the journey.

Unfortunately, I did not travel to Delhi as I had direct flight to Rajasthan city , but have included this route from Delhi as it is the airport that most travelers will fly into if you are going to India.

DAYS 3-4: JaisalmeR

Rajasthan Travel

Jaisalmer also known as the golden city or yellow city because of the sandstones colour .It was once a popular and busy town with traders along the silk road. There is no direct flight available to Jaisalmer (the nearest available airport is at Jodhpur). Jaisalmer is rather unique and different from the rest of the places that you will visit as many of the houses are finely sculptured. It is a small town which you will feel like an absolute tourist, every single person on the streets will literary ask you :Where are you from? /Namaste/Do you need help/You are my friend, I will give you free ride(which you should know you couldn’t trust them).

Top places to see in Jaisalmer
  • Jaisalmer fort : Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fully preserved fortified cities in the world. It basically means there are people who live inside the fort.
  • Jain Temple: These temples are famous for their intricate carvings and architecture.
  • Desert Safari: You can spend a whole night or an evening in the Thar Desert at Jaisalmer and enjoy Camel Safari, Jeep Safari, Musical evening. All guesthouses will offer this and you can choose the package that will meet your budget.
  • Jaisalmer Lake: My most favourite place in Jaisalmer, such a beautiful and peaceful lake that u can just sit and understand the art of doing nothing.

  • Kothari’s Patwa-k0 Haveli Museum
  • Patwon Ki Haveli
  • Sunset from Bada Bagh

TOP OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • Parasailing and para-motor Gliding in the desert

Hotel Tokyo Palace Jaisalmer

A little old but a great place that is walking distance from the fort with friendly people. They offered free pick up to and from the train station which was really convenient.

HOW TO TRAVEL OUT OF Jaisalmer

  • Train to Jodhpur: 6 hours
  • Train to Jaipur :  11 hours

The international hotels in Jaisalmer are really well priced compared to the ones in big cities, so if you are thinking to splurge a day to two,  highly recommend to do it Jaisalmer.  Another option is to stay a night in luxury camp in the desert.

  • The Step Well – Toorji Ka Jhalara :Amazing architecture , must visit place

WHERE I STAY IN Jodhpur

Singhvi’s Haveli Hotel

Its 17th-century carved sandstone haveli (haveli means mansion), located in a 10-minute walk from the Mehrangarh Fort .There are lots of Haveli home stays in the whole of Rajasthan and I highly recommend to stay in one of those if you want to experience Rajasthani style heritage.

How TO TRAVEL OUT OF Jodhpur

  • Train to Jaipur : 5 hours
 Useful tips

There are two parts of Jodhpur ; old and new city and I recommend to stay in the old part of the jodhpur where the blue houses are .The pollution is really bad in Jodhpur , So it is recommended to bring scarf to protect yourself.

If you have limited time or do not wish to take long train ride but want to experience camel ride in the sand dunes, you can also do it in Osian ( 60km from Jodhpur).

DAYS 7-8: Jaipur

Rajasthan Travel

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan state and it is also known as Pink city and  it is my most favourite city amongst the places which I visited in India. There are so much things to see  and have so much character and I was instantly amazed how beautiful everywhere really is.

Top places to see in Jaipur
  • Amer fort and Palace (also known as Amber fort): Amer fort is a very popular fort and crowded with tourists because it is part of Golden Triangle tour (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) that most people visit. You can see many tour groups and the view from the fort was amazing.
  • Hawa Mahal :Also known as the palace of the breeze. It is a high screen wall built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivals while unseen from the outside.
  • Nahargarh fort: You can name this place like the Great wall of China . It is located at the highest hill in Jaipur and the view of the city from the fort is impressive.
  • City palace is the complex of courtyards, gardens and buildings .The complete entry ticket to palace was super expensive at 2500 INR so we only managed to visit the courtyards which were still beautiful but apparently there was a wedding preparation going on, so it was super messy too.
  • Bapu Bazzar: The bazaar with liveliness and availability of variety of Rajasthani products has made Bapu Bazzar an ultimate shopping destination.

PLACES THAT YOU CAN VISIT IF YOU HAVE TIME

  • Jaigarh Fort
  • Jantar Mantar
  • Albert Hall
  • Birla Mandir
  • Monkey Temple

TOP OUTDOOR ACTIVITES

  • Hot Air Balloon ride

WHERE I STAY IN Jaipur

Nahargarh Palace Hotel

Located in a congested area ( but we are in india remember) but I wouldn’t complain because it is right at the base of Nahargarh fort and easy to go to the famous attractions. Super affordable and clean place with amazing and very hospitable people.

HOW TO TRAVEL OUT OF JAipur

  •  Train to Agra : 4hours
 Useful tips

If you plan to do some shopping in india, I highly recommend to do it in Jaipur , prices are cheaper and lots of varieties . Try to plan to go late in the morning when you go shopping while the traffic will be still bearable ( it gets pretty crazy in the afternoon) .

DAYS 9-10: Agra

Rajasthan Travel

Agra ;the city of the Taj Mahal, in the north Indian state of Uttar Paradsh. Due to the very high number of tourists, Agra is a place for touts and people looking to separate you from your money. People from all over the world visit Agra to see India’s most famous building – the Taj Mahal.Pollution again here is one of the worst in the world.

Top places to see in Agra
  • Taj Mahal:Taj Mahal is actually not a religious building ;therefore there isn’t strict dress code for ladies. It is one of the most well-preserved and architecturally beautiful tombs in the world.
  • Agra Fort: The fort is similar  to the Red Fort in Delhi, but considerably better preserved.
  • Tomb of I’timad-ud-Daulah: Also known as baby Taj. The garden layout, use of white marble and inlay designs looks the same from the Taj Mahal.
  • Mehtab Bagh:The botanical garden that gives  you an opportunity to view the Taj at a remove away from the crowds of tourists.

PLACES THAT YOU CAN VISIT IF YOU HAVE TIME

  • Fahtepur Sikri
  • Sikandra

TOP OUTDOOR ACTIVITiES

  • Boat ride in Yamuna River

WHERE I STAY IN Agra

Zostel Agra

Very well located as it is walking distance to Taj mahal. If you are traveling alone or want to experience Hostel culture and meet up with other travelers, this could be a great place. They do arrange lots of tours and  you can easily find and share for the transportation.

HOW TO TRAVEL OUT OF Agra

  • Train to Delhi: 4 to 5 hours
 Useful tips

They have a very strict  Rules and Regulations ( recommend to go through them online) at the Taj Mahal.

You can buy the entry tickets online if you have fixed dates .Citizens of SAARC and BIMSTEC Countries got a discount rate and guess what ;Myanmar is one of them , yay!

Lastly for the peace of mind, I highly recommend to look up  car rental companies and guide on tripadvsior and pre book it .It will definitely worth the extra money.I hope this guide is useful for you and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

This is such a great route. I did this exact area of India in 2013 and went to nearly all the places you mentioned! It really is a great tour. I just found the Taj Mahal overrated 🙂 But the lake in Pushkar was so beautiful and sacred.
